MPO realizes the need for quick turnaround of prototype plastic optics. To this, MPO uses state of the art single point diamond turning (SPDT) machines or lathes for providing rapid prototyping of plastic optics to help our customers prove their system designs. This ensures that the optical design is fully functional before investing in the tooling and production.
 
Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) offers MPO the ability to rapidly make prototypes and to produce limited runs of extremely precise :

These state of the art Moore Nanotechnology 250 Ultra Precision lathe that MPO uses is one of the most accurate lathes available today. With machine resolution of 0.04µ" (1nm) coupled with on-board profilometry, the lathe enables MPO technicians to generate and verify optical surfaces with surface and form accuracies to the sub-micron level and surface roughness measured down to the angstrom level.

Single Point Diamond Turning is the perfect solution to quickly provide prototypes and before the mold tooling is actually fabricated. MPO’s Single Point Diamond Turning services will save you time and development costs because plastic optic designs can be produced and tested without the time consuming first step of designing and fabricating an injection mold. Diamond Turning is also well suited for the manufacture of precision plastic optics in limited quantities.
